Obituary for Sallie Hankins Ingram

Sallie Hankins Ingram, age 95, of 1111 Rison Street Danville, VA died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Stratford House in Danville. She was born on April 8, 1916, in Halifax County, VA, the daughter of the late Edwin L. Ingram and the late Mollie Stevens Ingram.
Miss Ingram was a member of Chatham Baptist Church. She was a member of the U.D.C and Morgan-Johnson Chapter # 44 order of the Eastern Star
Miss Ingram entered the US Army in August of 1941. She retired May 31, 1966 after 25 years, with the rank of Major.
Among her military decorations, she received the Philippine Liberation medal, the Bronze Star and she also received Service Medals from the Philippines, Korea & the United Nations. She also earned the Presidential Unit Citation in Korea, the World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Medal. After her retirement she worked at Hargrave Military Academy in the infirmary for 10 years.
She is survived by four nieces, Patricia C. Strader, Ann C. Harris, Linda Sprigg, and Slade Plantger; five nephews, Don Campbell, Howard Campbell, Bobby Campbell, Harry Campbell, and Bobby Ingram.
Funeral services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Charles Warnock, III officiating. Burial will be at Chatham Burial Park, in Chatham. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 2:00 PM till 3:00 PM. Scott Funeral Home in Chatham is respectfully serving the Ingram family.
