Obituary for Amelie Shields Yates

Chatham,

Amelie Shields Yates, age 92, formerly of 217 Whittle St. Chatham, VA, entered into rest on October 24, 2014 at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born on January 17, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late Eddie Taylor Shields and the late Mary Pickeral Shields. She was married to the late Cooper Washington Yates.

Amelie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed. She was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church and enjoyed her work in the church, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Harold Wayne (Jackie) Yates of Chatham; a grandchild, Kim (Charles) Blair of Chatham; a great-grandchild, Jennifer Blair; special nieces and nephews, Nancie Motley of Chatham, Carlton (Betty) Morton, of Chatham and Charles (Francis) Morton of Manhattan, KS; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Heather Blair Yeatts and a sister, Vera Matherly.

Funeral services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Monday October 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Rev. George Hatmaker and Rev. Mikel Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Sunday October 26, 2014 from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 217 Whittle St. Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Payneton United Methodist Church, 1160 Payneton Rd. Chatham, VA 24531.
