Obituary for Aura Dale Mays Farmer

Chatham,

Aura Dale Mays Farmer, age 69, of 3053 Spring Garden Rd. Chatham, VA, went home to be with Jesus on January 9, 2015 at UNC Hospital after a courageous 9 year battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.

Born on December 25, 1945, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Gladys Newbern Mays and the late Charles Perkins Mays.

She was a faithful member of Shockoe Baptist Church in Spring Garden where she sang in the choir and harvested beautiful flower arrangements from her personal garden for Sunday services. She was also very active with the local Master Gardeners Club.

In addition to her husband Norman Larry Farmer, she is survived by one daughter, Robyn McDaniel Best and her husband Eric of Marion, NC; two sons, Stephen Foster McDaniel and his wife Wendy of Chatham and Billy Joe McDaniel of Chatham; a step-son, Dan Farmer and his wife Shannon of Danville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Living siblings include Harvey Mays, Jackie Mays, Carl Perkins Mays, Sarah Ann Farson, Ellen Brumfield, and Fannie Ragsdale McDaniel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the following siblings, Betty Jean Yeatts, Ted "Billy" Mays, C.W. Mays, Joyce East, and Faye Mays.

Funeral services will be conducted at Shockoe Baptist Church on Monday January 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Michael C. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Sunday January 11, 2015 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 3053 Spring Garden Rd. Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Drive , Suite J
