Obituary for Allen Snead Haskins



CALLANDS,

Allen Snead Haskins, age 82, of 1080 Sailors Creek Rd. Callands, entered into rest on March 6, 2017.

He was born on November 2, 1934, in Pittsylvania County, the son of the late Coleman Haskins and the late Nannie Rigney Haskins. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Osborne Haskins.

He retired from Dan River Mills and was a tobacco farmer. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, playing checkers, and was NASCAR fan and loved pulling for Fords. He especially loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by one son, Ray Haskins and his wife Katie; four daughters, Carolyn Towler and her husband Bobby, Sylvia Swanson and her husband Roy, Janice Motley and her husband Byron, and Mary Barker and her husband William; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Paulik, David Towler, Damon Haskins, Patty Haskins, Ernest Swanson, Roy Lee Swanson, and Neal Barker; three step-grandchildren, Carrie "Peacock" Barker, Kaylee Barker, and Thomas Barker; six great-grandchildren, Megan Myers, Cody Myers, Mason Swanson, Kaleb Swanson, Abigail Rust, and Allison Swanson; one brother, Dennis Haskins; and two sisters, Joyce Whitley and Mary Ripley.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Allen Haskins; brothers, Wade Haskins and Johnie Haskins; and sisters, Macie Merricks, Fannie Merricks, Edith Haskins, and Clarice Adams.

Funeral services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Friday March 10, 2017 at 11:00 am with Minister Steve Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday March 9, 2017 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence of his daughter Mary Barker, 1039 Sailors Creek Rd. Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Callands Fire and Rescue Squad, 11741 Callands RD Callands, VA 24530.
