Obituary for Suzanne Wright Shaver

BOLIVIA, NC,

Suzanne Wright Shaver, 88, formerly of Danville, died on March 12, 2017, at Universal Health Care in Bolivia, NC.

She was born on March 29, 1928, in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of the late Leslie Edgar Wright and the late Susanna Knapp Wright. She was married to the late Robert Vickers Shaver.

She was a former ballerina, toured with the USO, and owned a dance studio in Durham before relocating to Danville in 1961, where she lived with her husband Robert until shortly after his death in 2006. Sue loved creative activity. She painted, made stained glass lamps, and always had a different craft project in the works and a jigsaw puzzle on the table. She loved to organize gatherings with neighbors and friends to play cards and socialize. She especially enjoyed spending time with her neighbor and best friend, Carol Miller. She inspired those who knew her to live a full and active life.

She is survived by three sons, Drew (Dianne) Doherty, Dan (Robyn) Doherty, and Bob (Karen) Shaver; six grandchildren, Kristen (Mark) Aron, Jason Doherty, Scott Doherty, Caroline (Paul) Cox, Mary Catherine Shaver, and Ryan Leadbitter; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Aron and Madyson Aron.

Graveside services will be conducted at Highland Burial Park, 3049 N Main St / Piney Forest Rd, Danville, on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
