Obituary for Archie Roscoe Murphy



CHATHAM,

Archie Roscoe Murphy, Jr., age 63, of 1284 Chalk Level Rd. Chatham, VA, entered into rest on December 12, 2017 at his residence in Chatham.

He was born on December 26, 1953, in Danville, the son of the late Archie Roscoe Murphy, Sr. and the late Erma Yeatts Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherri Hawkins Murphy.

Archie was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed. He was a member of Blairs Baptist Church and a former member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. He worked for 36 years at Ennis in Chatham. He sang in the church choir and was a member of New Song Community Choir. He also loved gardening and wood working.

He is survived by two daughters, Shannon Murphy Barker and her husband Peter of Blairs and Sara Murphy of Chatham; and one sister, Betty Lissenden of Richmond.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Williams.

Funeral services will be conducted at Blairs Baptist Church on Friday December 15, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. John Lester and Rev. James Bullock officiating.

Burial will follow at Mill Creek Community Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday December 14, 2017 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 1284 Chalk Level Rd. Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Indian Children's Bible Camp, P.O. Box 35 Dry Fork, VA 24549.
