Obituary for Hasful Clyde Crowder

CHATHAM,

Rev. Hasful Clyde Crowder, age 91, of 593 Woodlawn Academy Road Chatham entered into rest on December 17, 2017 at SOVAH Health in Danville.

He was born on October 1, 1926, in Carroll County, the son of the late James H Crowder and the late Bertha Mae Myers Crowder. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Collins Crowder.

He was the founder and builder of the Java Church of God of Prophecy. Many people were blessed over the years by his ministry and beautiful guitar talents. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. While serving, he was a member of the 720th Military Police Battalion guarding Emperor Hirohito during the military war tribunals.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol C. Byrd and Joan C. (Barry) Merricks; four grandchildren, Todd (Gwen Estep) Byrd, Lori (David) Hale, Jason (Hope) Merricks, and Justin (Marilyn Schow) Merricks; five great-grandchildren, Baylee, Hayden, Elijah, Alice, and Sarah; two sisters, Maxine C. Furrow and Jerolene C. Daniels; and one brother, Donald Crowder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lester J. Crowder, William G. Crowder, and Lonnie Crowder, a sister, Inez C. Austin, and one son-in-law, Stephen Byrd.

Funeral services will be conducted at Java Church of God of Prophecy on Wednesday December 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Edward Pope and Rev. Albert Moser officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times will be at the residence, 593 Woodlawn Academy Road Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Java Church of God of Prophecy building fund.
