Obituary for
Roger Cleo Boswell
DANVILLE,
Roger Cleo Boswell, 95, formerly of Chatham, passed away Saturday, January 20th, at Sovah Health following a brief decline in health.
Born the eldest son of Lincoln and Essie Boswell on March 28, 1922, Roger lived in Chatham for most of his life. Following high school, Roger proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and delighted his family with tales of his world travels and adventures at sea. Roger later worked at Disston Tools, but his true passion was for community service. He was an active volunteer for the Chatham Rescue Squad, Chatham Lions Club, Pittsylvania County Historical Society, and Chatham Beautification Committee, to name a few of the many causes dear to his heart. Roger was a lifelong member of Chatham Presbyterian Church and leaves behind a loyal church family who supported him his entire life, especially since his transition to assisted living at Brookdale of Danville.
The family wishes to thank John Torrence for ensuring that Roger could attend his beloved church each Sunday. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dorothy Boswell Beller, and his brother, John Powell Boswell. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Julian Boswell, of Durham, N.C., his nieces and nephews, his loyal caregivers at Brookdale of Danville, his wonderful church family, and a host of treasured friends.
A celebration of Roger's life and faith will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Scott Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Pugh officiating. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence of Sammy and Martha Tucker in Danville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Chatham Presbyterian Church. Scott Funeral Home is serving the Boswell family.
