Charles Owen Haymes Sr., age 81, of 111 Hedrick Dr. Chatham, VA, received complete healing from his earthly body, entered into Heaven, and has been clothed with his heavenly body on January 24, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on February 21, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, the son of the late Charles Henry Haymes and the late Myrtle Owen Haymes. He is survived by his wife, Joanna Hill Haymes, of the residence.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tracey Haymes and Amy Haymes Lane of Chatham; one son, Charles Owen (Deborah) Haymes Jr. of Chatham; four grandchildren, Bradley Owen (Alexandra) Haymes, Katelyn Elaine Haymes, Sydney Louise Lane, and Owen Kingsley Lane; one great-grandchild, Charles “Charlie” Owen Haymes; two step-grandchildren, Kyle Sheldon and Pierce Sheldon; and two brothers, Bill (Ann) Haymes of Chatham and Sandy (Francine) Haymes of Chesterfield VA.
Charlie and Bill Haymes started Haymes Brothers Inc. in 1965. He served as the President of the company until 2001, at which time the company was passed to his son, Chuck, and his nephew, Andy. Haymes Brothers continues to operate today because of his dedicated leadership in the early years. Even after retiring, he continued to do various projects for local residents and landowners, building ponds and roads with his excavator. It was his passion.
He was an active member of Oakland United Methodist Church all of his life. He served as a sunday school teacher for 30+ years, was a youth leader, and a member of the Fisherman’s Club. He loved his church and serving the Lord.
He enjoyed spending time with family and listening to gospel music. Grouse and quail hunting with family and friends was by far one of his favorite past times.
Funeral services will be conducted at Oakland United Methodist Church on Sunday January 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jon Woodburn and Minister Larry L. Owen officiating.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Oakland United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday January 27, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 111 Hedrick Dr. Chatham, VA.
