Condolence: I am so sorry to learn of your loss. May your many shared memories of your loved one bring your family comfort. The scriptures remind us that Almighty God is close to those who grieve; "...He saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) My sincerest condolences to all of you.

Condolence: My condolence to the family, I will miss Allen. He has been apart of my life for a while in being my children's bus driver, to a follower officer at Sheriff's office. He was always a quiet, humble person. You have served well, rest now until we met again.

Condolence: One of the finest men I have ever had the privilege to know and call my friend died last night,a man who fought for us all in Vietnam in the United States Marine Corp, he never talked much about Vietnam but he was proud to be a Marine,he worked for us all again in the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and was a dedicated Investigator.Lester Allen Shelton was the kind of Investigator you wanted working with you,he was never to busy or to tired to help with something, you had his ear with any subject you talked about and at times we talked about everything, anything we talked about was the most important topic of the minute and there was never a dull moment,if you wanted to talk about something that irritated you or was personal you could talk to him and it never went any further,he was opinionated as I was and never held back on his opinion on any topic with anyone in anyplace and let the cards fall where they may,we would sometimes go on a tirade about something and talk in the language of a Chief Petty Officer, that's was one of the reasons I liked him.Allen could get along with anyone, he never met a stranger but he read people like a book and what he seen in someone was usually what they were and they could not hide it from him,he respected everyone he worked with, young deputies ,older deputies or the old school guys,we talked about the good old days of police work and how things had changed and how respect was a thing of the past, and he expressed how he worried about what the new guys had to endure in their jobs now and how things leaned toward the criminals benefit,he could turn a miserable day, assignment or a trip into a good one and I looked forward to working with him,I would come to work and be having a bad day and he would bring up a subject from parts unknown and break up the place with his humor,a long fourteen hour extradition was not hard or irritating with him and on many times the prisoner being brought back enjoyed talking to Allen after they talked for awhile.Allen loved his family, his wife and sons meant the world to him,he understood what family meant and when we lost our mothers we understood how we both felt and talked about them often,he had his family, his dogs and of course his chickens, they were the luckiest chickens in the world and if you knew Allen you know what I am talking about, the friend we all look for, that was who Allen Shelton was to me.Tough to the end, never complained about what he was going through, never !. I wish I could have worked one more day with him,one more talk, one more trip. I’m sad for myself because I will not be able to do that again, but I am happy for Allen, because he’s better off than I am now,he’s in a place where there's no more pain,no more suffering and he’s with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and gone to a place where he does not have to put up with the BS we will still have to that he leaves behind,I hope that when my time comes I will see him again.

(John 5:28, 29) The Bible promises that your loved one will soon come back to live in the resurrection in the paradise on the earth. (Acts 24:15) Sincerely, S. Ellis
