Obituary for Robert Nelson Smith



CHATHAM,

Robert Nelson Smith, age 64, of 1141 Fairview N Chatham, VA, entered into rest on June 23, 2018 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on October 19, 1953, in Pender County, NC, the son of the late Macon Worth Smith and the late Mary Anderson Smith. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Anderson Smith.

He was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and worked as lineman-foreman for Mecklenburg Electric Co-Op, where his coworkers were like family. His greatest joys were his family and grandchildren, boating at Smith Mountain Lake, and his little dog Nyla.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kevin Nelson (Sarah) Smith; one daughter, Kelly Ann Smith; one step-son, Scott (Melissa) Neal; one step-daughter, Beth (Corey) Washabaugh; six grandchildren, Kaitlin Smith, Macon Smith, Madeline Neal, Zachary Neal, Elizabeth Washabaugh, Dylan Washabaugh; and one sister, Janet (Bryan) Wester.

Memorial services will be conducted at Oakland United Methodist Church on Tuesday June 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm.

The family will receive friends at Oakland United Methodist Church on Tuesday June 26, 2018 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm and at other times at the residence, 1141 Fairview N Chatham, VA 24531.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Oakland United Methodist Church, PO Box 35 Dry Fork, VA 24549.
