Obituary for Ryland Edward Hawker

Ryland Edward Hawker, 80, resident of Roman Eagle Rehab and Healthcare Center, and formerly of Pittsylvania County, VA, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, at Sovah Health in Danville. He was born March 14, 1939 to the late Macie Daniel Hawker and the late Ray Edward Hawker. He was also predeceased in death by his sisters, Nancy Moyer, Hazel Moyer and Jeanette Compton.
Ryland worked at Dan River Mills, Disston and Lowes. Ryland loved bluegrass music and enjoyed entertaining people with his banjo and guitar playing.
Ryland is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Hawker, his sons, Kevin Hawke (Jo), Edward Hawker (Cindy), and Perrow Brumfield (Melissa); his sisters, Dale Norton (Roy), Dianne Powers; his brothers, Gene Hawker (Patsy); Neal Hawker, and Mark Hawker (Linda); 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Melanie Cockram (Danny) and their children, Kelsey and Dustin, along with many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 7 pm at Mount Olivet UMC on Mount Cross Road with Pastor Jimmy Calhoun and Elder Jamie Hancock officiating. Visitation will be after the service. You may visit Carolyn Hawker at Roman Eagle in Room 236.
The family respectfully suggests that memorial donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the charity of your choice.
The family also wishes to thank the staff of Roman Eagle Garden Terrace for their special care with special thanks to Belinda Emerson.
