Obituary for Mavis Rusling Amos



CALLANDS,

Mavis Rusling Amos, age 92, of 1440 Sailors Creek Road, Callands, entered into rest on September 30, 2019 at Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on April 26, 1927, in Mildenhall, England, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bertram Rusling. In 1945 she married Richard Norman Amos in Exmouth, Devon, England.

She traveled as a War Bride aboard The Queen Mary to America in 1946 and was joined by her husband several months later. They were blessed with almost 70 years of marriage. She joined Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church in 1954 and remained a faithful member until her passing. Mavis became a proud citizen of the United States in 2001.

She is survived by one son, Paul B. (Susan) Amos of Dry Fork; a daughter, Linda Gardner, of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Melissa (Robert) Burkett of Callands, Richard E. Reynolds of Martinsville, Michael (Angie) Law of Ridgeway, Christy (Todd) Ferguson of Figsboro, and Caitlin Amos of Brooklyn, NY; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan Reynolds of Loudoun Heights, Ian Reynolds of Martinsville, Matthew Law and Michaella Law of Ridgeway, Jacob Howe of Spencer, Claire Howe and Gage Ferguson of Figsboro; and three step great-grandchildren, Ashley (Jorge) Castorena, Brittany Burkett, and Trey Burkett.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Reynolds, and a grandson, Jordan Paul Amos.

Funeral services will be conducted at Matthews Memorial Community Church, 1060 Cavalry Road, Chatham, VA on Thursday October 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Russell East, III officiating.

Burial will follow at the Amos Family Cemetery, Callands, VA

The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday October 2, 2019 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times at the residence, 1440 Sailors Creek Rd. Callands, VA.
