Obituary for Barbara Allen Merricks



DRY FORK,

Barbara Ann Allen Merricks, 81, of Dry Fork, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

She was born October 8, 1937 to the late Lola Mahan Gravely. She was married to the late Billy Merricks for 42 years. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Annette Merricks Yates (Scott); three granddaughters, Stephanie Yates (Brian), Samantha Giles, and Jessica Webb; and one great-granddaughter Charlotte Webb. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy Haskins; her brother Walter Gravely (Debrah); her niece Pam Blackwell (Roger); and her nephews Ricky Gravely and Robbie Gravely.

For 25 years Billy and Barbara owned Merricks’ Grocery in Callands, Virginia. Barbara enjoyed time with family and friends, going to listen to Bluegrass music, and cooking. She spent many days sitting on her carport enjoying her flowers and watching the hummingbirds.

The family would like to send a special thank you to all of the caregivers that took such wonderful care of her.

Funeral services will be conducted at Liberty Baptist Church on Sunday October 6, 2019 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.

Burial will follow at Merricks Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Saturday October 5, 2019 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence.
