Patricia (Peggy) Ann Pierce Obituary
Peggy Pierce passed away in the Chatham Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chatham, VA, on January 7, 2020 at the age of 75. Peggy enjoyed making friends and if you didn't know her, you would soon find yourself in her ever-expanding circle of friends. She will be greatly missed for her sense of humor, dedication to her church and family, and concern for others.
Peggy was born on January 29, 1944 in Elkhart, KS, to Raymond and Marie Grasz. She grew up in the small town of Elkhart, KS, but filled the hearts of many with her infectious enthusiasm, laughter and sense of adventure. Peggy graduated from Elkhart High School in 1962. She later attended and graduated from the Danville Beauty Academy in 1972. Peggy's life path eventually led her to a fulfilling career and eventual retirement at Columbia Forrest Products in Chatham, VA.
She was married to Latine Jesse Pierce on July 23, 1962 and they made their home in Danville, VA and then later in Chatham, VA. She was a member of the Mill Creek Community Church and lived in the Danville / Chatham communities for 50+ years.
Peggy lived a fulfilling life as a wife, sister, aunt and friend. She loved to travel with friends and family, long walks in the country, joining her friends for breakfast at the local Hardee's restaurant, and attending church, bible studies and Sunday School.
Peggy is survived by the loving community of Chatham, her sisters, Shirley Crosley of Nampa, ID, and Barbara Procyzyn of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Brenda Grasz of Elkhart, KS; aunt, Ruth Smith of Elkhart, KS; nieces, Galynne and Lynette Crosley, Charlotte (Derek) Isaacs, Kimberly (Rick) Long, Jody (Chris) Tedder; nephews, Larry (Tracy) Crosley, Charles Carter, Jr, A'Don (Tate) Grasz; many cousins and grand-nephews and grand-nieces. The family would also like to recognize Peggy's long-time friend, Margaret Gupton, who was like a daughter to Peggy. She is predeceased in death by her husband Latine, sons Latine Jesse Jr. and Brian Keith; daughter Cynthia Ann; her parents, Raymond and Marie Grasz; brother, Donald L. Grasz; brothers-in-law, Lynn Crosley and Charles Carter Sr; and grand-nephew Michael Paxton.
A memorial service was held at Mill Creek Community Church in Chatham, VA on Jan 12, 2020 for congregational members and close friends. No formal funeral services will be held by the family as it was Peggy's wish that her friends and loved ones remembered her in their own way and all the happy times that she shared with them. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met. Help her kindness, loyalty and compassion continue by making a donation in her name to a charity of your choice or volunteering in the Chatham community and local churches.
