Obituary for Mary Giles Jessie
CHATHAM,
Mary Elizabeth Giles Jessie, age 97, of Chatham, entered into rest on February 3, 2020 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville.
She was born on December 25, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late John Lewis Giles and the late Mary Elizabeth DeMott Giles.
She was married to the late Lawrence Donald Jessie.
She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She got her degree from George Washington University and worked as a computer programmer for the Defense Communication Administration. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother that was well loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lauren Carol (Bill) Curry and Martha Elaine Jessie; a son, David Michael Jessie; four grandchildren, Sarah Curry, Alex Curry, Danielle (Jon) Prather, and Matt Jessie; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia G. Moran and Nancy G. Robertson; three brothers, Glenn Giles, Ronnie Giles, and Donnie Giles.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Diane Jessie; two brothers, Leslie Giles and Larry Giles, and a daughter-in-law, Trish Jessie.
Funeral services will be conducted at Concord Methodist Church on Thursday February 6, 2020 at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Concord United Methodist Church.
