Obituary for Ronald Monroe "Duck" Irby

CHATHAM,

Ronald Monroe “Duck” Irby, age 73, of 265 Hillcrest Lane Chatham, VA, entered into rest on March 11, 2015 at residence surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 15, 1941, in Halifax County, the son of the late Adolphus Merlin Irby and the late Evelyn Jones Irby. He was married to his wife of 51 years Irma Davis Irby, who survives.

Ronald was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He was an avid reader and musician who loved spending time with his family and many friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sandy Irby Stephenson of Chatham; his son, Bobby Joseph Irby of Chatham; grandchildren, Leah Irby, Sarah Harden, and Jacob Irby; sisters, Arretta Layne of Gladys and Helen Fallen of Halifax; brothers, Bentley Irby of Nathalie and Jim Irby of Dublin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne Irby, Pete Irby, and Rosser Irby; and a sister, Vida Perkins.

A memorial service will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Saturday March 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Cleon Ross officiating.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Friday March 13, 2015 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 265 Hillcrest Lane Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Drive, Suite J Danville, VA 24541, danvillevacancer.org or Chatham Fire Department, P.O. Box 192 Chatham, VA 24531 or Chatham Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 365 Chatham, VA 24531.
