Obituary for Robert Lee "Bob" Kitzmiller



CHATHAM,

Robert Lee “Bob” Kitzmiller, age 66, of 103 N. Main St. Chatham, entered into rest on July 4, 2016 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

He was born on February 27, 1950, in Bristol, the son of the late Keyes Boardwine Kitzmiller and the late Grace Emma Phillips Kitzmiller. He was married to Deborah Hair Shelton-Kitzmiller, who survives.

Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He served as the Athletic Director, and soccer and basketball coach at Sacred Heart School for many years. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in the Danville Little League and Pittsylvania County Youth League and over the years had refereed countless youth soccer, basketball, and baseball games.. He was retired as the Assistant General Manager of the Danville Braves and was an avid fan of the entire Atlanta Braves system and also VA Tech sports.

He is survived by his two daughters, Melissa Minnick and her husband Bobby, Lori Herndon and her husband Josh; two sons, Robert Kitzmiller and his wife Julie, Blake Kitzmiller and his wife Katie; a step-daughter, Ashley Morgan and her husband Seth; a step-son, George Shelton and his wife Amanda; six grandchildren, Leighann Minnick, Ashley Kitzmiller, Colton Kitzmiller, Hayden Kitzmiller, Owen Kitzmiller, and Ryder Kitzmiller; four step-grandchildren, Shaffer Shelton, Addie Shelton, Mason Shelton, and Neva Morgan; three brothers, Randy Kitzmiller, Rickey Kitzmiller and his wife Stephanie, and David Kitzmiller; several nieces; and his special dogs, Carli and Lulu.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Kitzmiller.
Memorial services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Friday July 8, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rev. Doug Barbour officiating.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday July 7, 2016 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 103 N. Main St. Chatham, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)-Greater Blue Ridge Chapter, greaterblueridge@jdrf.org or 3959 Electric Rd. #222 Roanoke, VA 24018.
